INTRODUCING
THE LANGUAGE FORMULA.
An action-based system that will take you from zero to fluency in a language of your choice in 16 weeks. Guaranteed.
-
The Language Formula is a meta-learning course. The principles of language hacking will be applicable to any language. That said, TLF works best for languages whose writing system you either already know or can learn relatively quickly. Learn more about languages you can learn with TLF here.
-
The Language Formula will take you to the CEFR B2 proficiency level, also known as working proficiency. You'll be able to read books, understand everyday speech and confidently hold meaningful conversations with native speakers. You'll be sufficiently fluent to confidently say that you speak language X.
-
The Language Formula provides strategies, tactics and timeline. If you stick to the timeline, you're guaranteed to get to working proficiency in a language of your choice in 16 weeks.
Meet Your Instructor
Learn from a linguist, neuroscientist, and polyglot.
I’m Alina Kuimova. I have a Master’s in Linguistics from York University (Toronto, Canada) and I’m currently pursuing another Master’s degree—this time, in Neuroscience.
Over the past seven years, I’ve studied, experimented with and worked on over 15 languages. I achieved full working proficiency in 4 of them—taking just 3 to 4 months to learn each and collecting language proficiency certificates along the way.
As a result of this language-learning-centered lifestyle, I devised a method that allows anyone—and I do mean anyone—to learn any alphabetic language in just 16 weeks. This method—I call it The Language Formula—comprises a set of strategies, each serving a specific purpose in moving you along the path from zero to working proficiency in a language of your choice.
And the best part is, once you master these strategies, you can apply them over and over again to any language. It just works. Every. Time.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
For those who are serious about learning a language.
For those who want to pass a language learning exam.
Or perhaps may want to move overseas.
For those who want to have meaningful conversations.
HOW IT WORKS | CURRICULUM
The Language Formula is carefully structured into four modules—each four weeks long,
with very clear tangible outcomes.
-
Vocabulary acquisition
-
Simultaneous reading and
listening
-
Massed input learning
-
Instensive speaking practice
Each module ensures you attain proficiency in a specific target language skill before progressing to the next level. Each new module compliments the module before it, allowing you to fast-track your language learning experience and ensuring you never plateaue along the way.
These four modules create a clear pathway to fluency. You will always know where you are on your language learning journey and what you need to do to get to the next stage.
Module 1: Week 1-4
VOCABULARY ACQUISITION
People fall into the trap of trying to speak from day 1—this can sap a learner of confidence and lead to much frustration when they simply do not know what to say!
Conversely, a child learns by receiving mass verbal and non-verbal input initially, associating words with meaning before it starts to finally speak.
The Language Formula works on a similar premise—the underlying premise is to understand the language first and then finally speak.
There are already existing apps that, depending on the language you are learning, I'll recommend for this part. I will teach you how to hack these apps to utilise them in the most efficient way to learn essential vocabulary quickly.
Thus Module 1 is dedicated to ensuring you learn just the right amount of critical vocabulary, which will act as the foundation for all of the other modules.
Module 1 : Video titles
Overview: The science of vocabulary acquisition
My top picks for the most efficiency language learning app: Part 1
When your language is not supported: choose your battles wisely
Streamlining language learning by removing friction
Strategic Selection: Accelerate your leaning by choosing the right books
Mastering Vocabulary: How many words you need to learn to start understanding another language
My top picks for the most efficiency language learning app: Part 2
Why establishing a language learning habit is essential
Staying on track
Preparing for module 2: Finding materials to start reading in your target language
Strategic Selection: Three criteria for choosing the most efficient language learning app to learn vocabulary
Apps to avoid if you want to learn vocabulary fast
Setting realistic goals and building your language learning routine
Module 1 conclusion
Module 2: Week 5-8
SIMULTANEOUS
READING AND LISTENING
Module 2 is about learning how to comprehend written and spoken language, which you can only do when you know enough critical vocabulary (hence module 1).
The fastest way to understand written and spoken language is through a method called Simultaneous Reading and Listening. In this module, you will read your favourite novel while simultaneously listening to the audio form of that book.
Critical to this method is reading material that you genuinely enjoy! Therefore, you will have to purchase your own book/audiobook. Don’t worry I explain the cheapest ways to purchase and where to find these resources in your chosen language.
By the end of this module, you will be able to understand one, likely several, of your favourite novels recited to you at natural speaking speed!
Module 2 : Video titles
Module 2: Pivoting to reading – knowing when to stop learning vocabulary
How much you should understand: Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable
Managing reading speed and optimizing learning
Mastering Language Comprehension: The science behind simultaneous reading and listening
The benefits of repeated reading and knowing when you’re ‘done’ and ready to read your second book
Dictionaries: The only time you should look up a word
Deep focus: Cultivating the optimal state of mild
Leveraging prior knowledge for comprehension
Module 3: Week 9-12
MASS INPUT LEARNING
Module 3 is about bombarding your hemispheres with an almost overwhelming amount of foreign language input.
This module builds upon module 2, but instead of just being able to comprehend the written and listening forms of your favourite novel(s), you will be able to understand pretty much everything- think podcasts and YouTube.
Once again, in this module, you get to use material that you genuinely enjoy. This is essential to the learning process- so no, I will not be providing you with a Spotify subscription, but I will recommend many free resources and how to maximise their value.
As you progress through module 3, you will reach a “sweet spot” where your ability to expand vocabulary and understand listening and reading comprehension accelerates, is effortless and indeed enjoyable!
When you can understand the everyday language, all that is left is to learn is how to speak!
Module 3 : Video titles
Module 3: Overview
3h/day vs 1h/day: Selecting your workload
In search of lost time: finding time for your language study
How-to: Building a database: How to find foreign language materials
Multisensory Input
Staying focused, or why you need a separate Youtube account and an ad-blocker
Don’t stop reading and other rules for staying motivated
Controlled input, or why watching movies is a terrible idea
Bonus: Lists of podcasts and YouTube channels in main languages
How to actually watch foreign language Youtube: the protocol
Narrow reading and listening
Criteria for choosing materials
Module 4: Week 12-16
INTENSIVE
SPEAKING PRACTICE
Perhaps the most mysterious aspect of this course is that the speaking component comes last. Up to this point you would have spent the last 12 weeks mastering listening and (reading) comprehension skills. So that when you do start speaking, natives recognise you as conversation-ready.
Since you will understand the language, you will know what to say, and it is now just a matter of practicing how to say it.
To practice speaking, you need practice with people (ideally native speakers) who can speak your language. So, I will recommend both free and paid options for you to practice speaking. I’ve experimented with paid speaking platforms, free speaking resources (when I was a struggling university student) and even immersion. Don’t worry, I will discuss all the options in this module.
Thus, by the end of module 4 you will be having meaningful conversations with native speakers and be at a level of CEFR B2 proficiency.
Module 4 : Video titles
Module 4: Overview-Language tutoring platforms
Pre-Commitment: Or how to start speaking when you’re very very afraid
Week 1: Sampling tutors and mastering your opening spiel
Creative approaches to speaking practice for the broke, the antisocial and everyone in between
Platforms and strategies
Choosing your future tutors
Week 2: Narrow speaking and attentive listening
Post-processing, or how to make the most of your speaking practice
Other languages: Platforms and strategies
Your first speaking practice: what to expect and how to prepare
Week 3-4: Strategies for dealing with the unexpected

HOW IS THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?
One of the main reasons why people give up learning a language is because they lose motivation. People experience quick wins by being enticed to speak from day one or compete in challenges. But trust me the novelty will wear off quickly, guaranteed.
+
The Language Formula firstly is not about quick wins. It’s not about being able to introduce yourself in a foreign language from day one. It’s about getting you to a point where you can actually use the language and have a meaningful conversation with native speakers. This means you need to do things differently. Yep, that’s right. Speaking is the last thing you will do and only when you are adequately prepared to speak. The Language Formula will set you up for success. It’s about achieving real and lasting results.
+
The truth is learning a language can be boring and hard. You can’t just rely on internal motivation. So, the only way you’re going to stay motivated is by using resources you actually enjoy and incorporating language learning into your everyday life. If you read, you need to be reading in your chosen language. If you watch YouTube, you need to be watching YouTube in your chosen language. For this reason, I recommend you buying external resources that are specific to you, including books, audiobooks and podcasts you’re interested in.
+
The Language Formula is simply a very efficient pathway to fluency that works without the crap. If you follow the program, CEFR B2 fluency is guaranteed. And furthermore, you will know every step of the way exactly where you are on the journey to fluency and will never, ever question if you are on the right track.

After 16 weeks you will achieve the CEFR B2 proficiency level.
The CEFR B2 level is considered an everyday working fluency. This is the level that is normally requested if you’re applying to study at a foreign university. It is also the level required for someone to work at an international office.
That’s where you become a confident and proficient user of another language.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE YOU?
THE TIME COMMITMENT
Let’s get one thing straight. The Language Formula takes commitment.
Module 1: 1 hour/day
Module 2: 2 hours/day
Module 3: 2 hours/day
Module 4: 2 hours/day
Why do I recommend an intensive immersion?
I assume you don’t want to be learning your language forever. This timeline will take you to B2 in a record time.
16 weeks represent the optimal duration in terms of the workload—you will be making quick progress, without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, as you’ll see, these 2-3 hours won’t take a toll on your daily life—if anything, they will enhance it.
Are you nuts? Can I go slower?
You can. To achieve the B2 proficiency level in 16 weeks you’ll need to stick to the timeline. If you don’t, it will just take you a little longer to complete the course. The course is self paced, so how quickly or slowly you complete this course is up to you.
WHAT LANGUAGES
CAN YOU LEARN?
The Language Formula is a meta-learning course. The principles of language learning—or rather, language hacking—will be applicable to learning any language. That said, there are some limitations. Because TLF is heavily reading-based. Reading is used as a gateway into improving speech comprehension. Hence, you should be able to read your target language. Therefore:
Languages you can learn with TLF
—are the languages whose writing system you either already know or can learn relatively quickly. For example, as an English speaker, you can easily learn how to read any language that uses the Latin/Roman script. You can also learn other true alphabets, such as Greek or Russian, relatively quickly. The idea is that you should be able to teach yourself how to read the language you’re learning early on and with relative ease.
The easiest for English speakers
English (duh!)
Spanish
French
German
Italian
Portuguese
Catalan
Dutch
Danish & Norwegian
Swedish
Finnish
Estonian
Romanian
Polish
Czech
Slovenian
Turkish
Indonesian Malay
Swahili
Tagalog
Slightly harder for English speakers
Languages using other true alphabets:
Russian
Ukrainian
Bulgarian
Serbian
Croatian
Kurdish
Mongolian
Kazakh
Tatar
Languages using the Cyrillic script:
Greek
Korean
Languages you probably can’t learn with TLF
—are languages whose writing system is not easily learned because it is very different from what you’re used to. For The Language Formula to be useful to you, you should be able to read in your target language. So, by extension, if you can already read the Arabic script (as a speaker of, say, Persian), then you can use The Language Formula to learn Arabic. If you understand Chinese characters as a speaker of Korean, then you can learn Mandarin or Cantonese using The Language Formula. if you already taught yourself to read Japanese hiragana and katakana, then TLF will help you learn Japanese.
Very Hard for English Speakers
Languages with logographic and syllabic writing systems:
Mandarin Chinese
Cantonese
Japanese
Korean
Vietnamese
Languages with abjad “alphabets”:
Arabic
Farsi
Urdu
Hebrew
Languages with abugida “alphabets”:
Amharic
Hindi
Tamil
Telugu
Kannada
Punjabi
Javanese
Thai
Another important variable you should think about is language support—in other words, whether you can easily find materials and personally-relevant content in your target language.
Languages like French, Spanish, German, Russian, Polish, Greek, and so on are all well-supported—there are a plethora of materials, such as books, audiobooks, blogs, youtube videos you can easily access and use going forward. The best indicator of language support is the number of speakers the language has.
If the language is spoken by millions—you’ll experience no issues finding resources in this language and the Language Formula will be immensely useful to you. If your target language is spoken by just a few thousands of people, however—like Hawaiian, Navajo, Armenian—you might have a problem, unless you have direct access to native speakers who can guide your search and help you out.
If this language is official in at least one country, it’s a good sign, and there might be hope. If not, then you’re likely trying to learn an endangered language. It will be tough.

How does The Language Formula compare to other programs?
Time is our greatest asset. In the world of language learning, there is nothing worse than trying a program that simply does not take you to your language learning goal. For most of us this is fluency.
Language Learning App
Gamified and ‘fun’
Often helpful for learning vocabulary, but it’s not possible to reach fluency with just an app.
Difficult to quantify language learning progress.
Often aims to cover too much at the cost of efficiency.

Online Tutors
A heavy focus on speaking from day 1- which can be frustrating for beginners who lack strong vocabulary base and general language comprehension

Often uses generic (and often boring) learning materials with a one-size-fits-all approach.
Price: $100/Month
Content platforms
A lack of structure and clarity on how to actually achieve fluency and to quantify your progress
They entice you with lots of content to ‘fill the program’ like culture lessons, and survival kits... all of which aren't necessary for reaching fluency.
Once-Off Price: $200-400

FAQs
Couldn’t I figure all of this out myself?
Sure, you could. You could but it will take you a very long time. A lot of time, effort, and money – indeed it took me seven years and two master’s degrees to figure all of this out
I wouldn't call myself a complete beginner, is The Language Formula for me?
The Language Formula is designed to take you from a beginner level to everyday fluency in another language in just 16 weeks. Whilst you may have some pre-existing knowledge such as vocabulary or grammar rules, I would recommend commencing the program from the beginning. What you may find however, is you may accelerate quickly through the earlier modules- and this is ok, if you have achieved the tangible outcomes described with each module. If you are at an A1 or A2 level or below, you will get much value out of The Language Formula.
What languages can I learn with The Language Formula?
The Language Formula is a meta-learning course- this means it teaches a method to learn any alphabetic language, not a specific method to learn a specific language.
An alphabetic language is one where letters represent the sounds of speech. Spanish, French, Russian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, or Polish, are all examples of alphabetic languages, just to name a few.
The Language Formula is not suitable for logographic or syllabic language systems. Logographic systems use characters to represent whole words or concepts, while in syllabic systems, characters represent syllables rather than individual sounds. Examples include Chinese, which uses logographic characters, and Japanese, which uses a combination of logographic characters (kanji) and syllabic characters (hiragana and katakana).
Reach out at hello@thelanguageformula.com if you’re still not sure if your language is suitable for The Language Forum.
What if I have a question?
For any questions, doubts or curiosities simply reach out at hello@thelanguageformula.com. I am invested in ensuring you reach your language goals and will be happy to help!
What resources do I need for The Language Formula? Are they included with the purchase of this course?
This program utilises existing language learning resources- e.g. select apps, novels and audiobooks. These are not supplied but there are ways to access these resources inexpensively, if not for free (explored in detail in the course). Why are these not included I hear you asking? It’s important that you learn with material that is of interest to you! This not only ensures you stay motivated, but also ensures the program is fun. To customise such a program, it would be more efficient to simply utilise resources that currently exist. What’s more, once you understand how and when to utilise these resources, you have essentially learned the formula to learn any alphabet language fast and can utilise this formula repeatedly to learn more languages.
Enrolments are only open for 5 days, does this mean I have to complete the course within a certain timeframe?
No. Once you purchase the course, you can start whenever you decide, and finish whenever you decide. I keep enrolments capped as this will ensure I can provide as much one on one support to each and every student as necessary to ensure they reach their language goals.
Additionally, once you purchase, you have lifetime access to the course! So should you wish to learn further languages down the track, you are free to continually access the material.
English is not my first language, can I still enrol?
Yes! The course is in English however if English is not your first language you can still enrol as long as you can speak it- additionally the course has subtitles should you stumble upon a word/phrase that is unfamiliar to you.
Is the course refundable?
Absolutely! I know The Language Formula works. I guarantee it works. If you find within 16 weeks that you are not satisfied with the course then send me an email at hello@thelanguageformula.com and I will issue you a refund no questions asked. That means you can essentially try the entire course risk free!
